Singapore Blogger Xiaxue Fights Back Against Facebook Abuse

Men who this week called popular blogger Xiaxue a “stupid bimbo” and a “whore” online are getting a taste of their own medicine.
Xiaxue is fighting back by posting their photos and information on her blog, in an attempt to show that they do not have much of a leg to stand on in the looks and intelligence department themselves.
The furor started when photos of Xiaxue with two friends, taken without permission from their blogs, surfaced on the Facebook page of political website Temasek Review on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with an invitation to caption them.

The photos of the three — Xiaxue and her friends Qiu Qiu and Sophie — were taken at a People’s Action Party (PAP) rally in Aljunied GRC during last May’s general election. In the photo, Xiaxue, 28, and Qiu Qiu, 24, have PAP logos on their faces.
In her blog, Xiaxue has never made her support for Singapore’s ruling party a secret. Commenters responded to the Temasek Review’s invitation readily: “Cheap b****,” said one.
“Pretty and sexy girls, which part of Geylang they work?” said another.
Xiaxue, whose real name is Wendy Cheng, posted on her blog yesterday: “I don’t know what is their problem (sic) because as I said, I have not uttered a word about this election and the photos are one year old.”
To get back at them, she trawled Facebook for their photos and information — and Facebook was obliging, because many of their profiles were public.

S'pore blogger exposes those who 'abused' her online

She posts on blog pictures of those who insulted her over PAP rally photos

The photos of the three - Xiaxue and her friends Qiu Qiu and Sophie - were taken at a People's Action Party (PAP) rally in Aljunied GRC during last May's general election. In the photo, Xiaxue, 28, and Qiu Qiu, 24, have PAP logos on their faces.
In her blog, Xiaxue has never made her support for Singapore's ruling party a secret.
Commenters responded to the Temasek Review's invitation readily: 'Cheap b****,' said one.
'Pretty and sexy girls, which part of Geylang they work?', said another.

From her blog http://xiaxue.blogspot.com/
It's freaking election time again in Singapore. I don't know what the dude at Hougang did to cause a by-election but WHY?? I thought we won't have to face this crap in Singapore for another 4 years.
One of the victims of Xiaxue's revenge, swim coach Lim Soon Chwee, 34, told The Straits Times last night that his comment, 'Pretty and sexy girls, which part of Geylang they work?' was incomplete.
'I didn't mean that at all,' he said, adding that he was actually trying to defend her.
'She's a public figure and she's probably just trying to increase the number of eyeballs on her blog.'
When he told his wife about Xiaxue's post, she just laughed, he said.
Another man who got one back from Xiaxue, Mr Hong Xing, a 35-year-old father of one, was less forgiving, because the photo Xiaxue held up for ridicule also featured his wife and child.
The engineer admitted that he had insinuated that Xiaxue was an underage prostitute, but said he preferred women in more conservative clothes.
'Look at what she is wearing. When she bends down, you can see her breasts,' he said, adding that he has seen prostitutes in Geylang who dress this way.
He added that he might not have posted the comment if he had known she would see it, but that she should not have posted photographs of his family online.
He said: 'My wife feels really bad. This is between Xiaxue and me. She shouldn't have attacked my family.'
SO how now brown cow?
Xiaxue? She doesn't exist in my cyber-universe
A day before The Straits Times published their first story on Xiaxue, her blog post was aggregated into my Facebook (FB) newsfeed. I had initially thought of saying something but then, decided against it. The reason I decided not to say anything was because it will be an unnecessary distraction from the by-election.
I felt that the discussion may have shifted from the real issues for the by-election in Hougang, to if the supporters of the opposition were angry, bitter and self-righteous middle-aged men.
Not that she is right in her observation of course. For example, Khaw Boon Wan said last year that Tin Pei Ling's grandmother had got into a fight with a woman for bad-mouthing the PAP and Lee Kuan Yew. So, can I now assume that all PAP supporters are older people with a bad temper?
The Straits Times (ST) reported today that since Xiaxue blogged about her unpleasant encounter, some of her fans (I presume younger people), had come out strongly against those that made the original comment about Xiaxue, to even ask one of the 'victims of the bloggers revenge' if his six-year old daughter was a prostitute.
Can I now assume that all PAP supporters (by the fans association with Xiaxue, who is a PAP supporter), that all PAP supporters are uncouth youths?
The truth is, middle-aged, angry, bitter and self-righteous men; elderly with bad tempers and uncouth youths are everywhere - they support the opposition, as well as the PAP.
That was the reason why I was surprised when AWARE linked ST's first report on their FB page to frame a discussion on 'online misogny'. I felt that AWARE had chosen a wrong issue to frame that discussion.
Xiaxue's blog post was all about her and her intent was quite clear (at least to me), that she was not interested to discuss or debate issues like civil discourse on the internet, or even misogyny. Making use of the by-election and the PAP, she just wanted to draw more traffic to her website. That's what I meant when I said to ST that she was a 'shrewd businesswoman'.
As I have said elsewhere, I do not want to make a judgment call on Xiaxue on how she has handled the matter, but I note one of my friends comments on his FB about the reactions Xiaxue has gotten for her blog post saying, "There should be absolutely no place for Xiaxue on cyberspace. If you want to know more about the woman and her bigotry, google 'Xiaxue AND bangala/bangla'."
I have met Xiaxue before - when I was invited by Irene Ang's team to participate in her General Election special interview of George Yeo, but Xiaxue does not exist in my cyber-universe.
Some conspiracy theorists may content that this storm in the tea-cup of Xiaxue's, is created by the PAP to distract the people from the by-election in Hougang.  I think we all can ill-afford the little distractions, so that we may stay focused on the big picture.

OMG!! I really can understand why she did that!! Read the blog HERE!
I mean like, those people leave REALLY BAD comments on her and expect that she keep quiet?
HELL NO!

It's their fault!  They deserve it! [ They ask for it!
They shoot those words to xiaxue first. What has xiaxue did that make them so angry and full of hate? ] Xiaxue didn't even know them loh! Or maybe she did, but she at least she never mention or bitch about them in her blog. I don't think that xiaxue will slam on anyone if it's not because of the person start it first..

I think that, generally, xiaxue is a nice person.. I honestly think so.. and she is funny! I like her sense of humor. When I see her video clip, she never fail to make me laugh. Just don't piss her off.. haha

Tsk tsk tsk.. Seriously.. Think before you said.. and stop hating other people..
I don't understand why people hate xiaxue..
Anyway, this entry is talking about xiaxue defending herself, this had nothing to do with PAP or any election..
